Summary

The Reimbursement Specialist-RN is responsible for conducting the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process to assure individual resident medical, psychosocial, emotional and physical needs are identified, and care plans are developed to assist residents in achieving their highest practicable level of function.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conducts the Resident Assessment Instrument (including the MDS and the CAAS) process for assigned residents. 
  • Utilizes the Assessment Reference Date assigned by the MDS Coordinator/ DON. 
  • Accurately and timely completes the assessments including Medicare, Annual and Quarterly reviews to assure RAI schedules are adhered to. 
  • Conducts beside interview and assessment of assigned residents prior to completing the MDS and CAAs to assure accurate assessments are completed and plans of care reflect the individual needs and preferences of the residents. 
  • Monitors Point of Care for assigned residents and assists, educates and supports staff to accurately document resident care. 
  • Communicates with the resident, representative and/or family the outcomes of assessments and plans of care to assure opportunities for input and adjustments can be made. 
  • Assists to coordinate and integrate resources needed to accomplish the plan of care. 
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care and documents as needed or scheduled progress/barriers in reaching desired outcomes. 
  • Encourages collaboration among interdisciplinary team members and the resident to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to resident care and services is achieved. 
  • Ensures that documentation in the health record reflects the RAI and care plan. 
  • Completes the Level of Care Determination accurately and timely for eligible residents. 
  • In the absence of the MDS Coordinator, obtains authorizations or re-authorizations for assigned residents. 
  • Attends and participates in Committee meetings as assigned by Director of Nursing and Administrator. 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Registered Nurse (strongly preferred) or experienced LPN with a minimum one-year nursing experience in a skilled nursing/long-term care facility. 
  • Prefer Resident Assessment Coordinator (RAC) Certification. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with residents, families, all levels of staff and external customers. 
  • Proficient computer skills essential including the ability to use Point Click Care and conduct online submissions.? 
  • Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel. 
  • Must possess a high degree of personal accountability, responsibility and the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. 
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing comprehensive activities to residents.
